Carbohydrates can be divided into two categories simple and complex. Simple carbohydrates can be further broken into 2 groups: monosaccharides and disaccharides. Monosaccharides are the smallest carbohydrate molecules so can be absorbed into the bloodstream through the digestive tract. There are 3 monosaccharides glucose, fructose and galactose.
